Eid-ul-Adha, a festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide, is one of the most notable dates in the Islamic calendar. It falls on the 10th day in the final month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar, following the completion of the annual Pilgrimage of Hajj.

The celebration of Eid-ul-Adha (Festival of the Sacrifice) usually begins with a congregational Eid prayer at the mosque, which is then followed by gathering with loved ones, enjoying a celebratory meal, and exchanging gifts and money (Eidi). This particular eid is also marked by the distribution of meat amongst the less fortunate to ensure everyone is able to eat on the blessed day.

This year, Eid-Al-Adha will be around Friday 6 June. Whilst Muslim countries will mark it as a public holiday with communal gatherings and celebratory Eid offerings, London also has lots of opportunities for Eid celebrations. From a spa day, to a cultural festival to the incredible nature it has to offer, there’s something for everyone.

Eid on the Square

Unsure with what to do with the whole family? Allow yourself to be hosted at Eid In The Square – the annual festival held in Trafalgar Square and organised by the Mayor’s Office on Sunday 8 June. This free festival works with London’s Eid Community Advisory Group and brings together culture, art, food and fun through grassroots Muslim organisations. It is a great way to spend a day outdoors with the Muslim, and non-Muslim community and there are endless things to do for little ones (and big ones!)

London Lush Spa offers themed treatments to celebrate EidGabriel Bush

Lush Cosmetics Eid Spa

It is a bit of an insider tip among spa lovers that Lush Cosmetics, known for their colourful bath bombs and perfumed shower gels, actually also has a spa – and a brilliant one at that. With the attention to detail we’ve come to expect from the brand, the spa treatments range from body scrubs and massages to bathing experiences. For Eid, the team are offering packages consisting of a Tailor Made Massage or Tangled Hair Spa Treatment. While we’re sure you’ll be too busy on Eid itself for a spa moment, it’s the perfect way to treat yourself afterwards and celebrate Eid again with friends. Bonus points go to Lush for their note on the website that refers to the availability of female therapists – something super important for the modesty of Muslim women.

Feast at Trishna

We know that, traditionally, most people will enjoy Eid meals at home, crowded together and jostling for space with loved ones. But for those who don’t feel like cooking, or honestly just want a treat, we’d highly recommend Trishna. Year round, their contemporary, coastal halal menu has a range of delectable options from Green Pepper Chicken Chops to Gongura Lamb and Seafood Pilau. A truly well-deserved Michelin-star restaurant that will end up seeing you back over and over again.
